It’s been a while since I last wrote a post. As a warm and hearty thank you for all of your support this year, I would like to share a few tips from my coach training that will emotionally enhance your festive holiday. These tips will change the way you interact with people and how you experience Christmas and others around you.

Give your inner Bah-Humbug the boot!

You’ve probably heard lots of negative comments regarding Christmas already, “I hate Christmas shopping” (I’ve let that one slip this week!) “Travelling at Christmas is a nightmare”, “I’m dreading the in-laws visiting”. Sure, we’re aware that we shouldn’t complain but some of us have done it for so long that we’ve rewired our brains to favour those gloomy thoughts. The negative impact this has on our relationships; with ourselves, our partners, our children, family and friends should encourage us to positively change.

Be Present

I attended a talk given by Eckhardt Tolle, author of the ‘Power of Now’ a few months ago. His book was part of my coaching course and his message; we are essentially wasting our lives by refusing to live in the present moment really opened my eyes. Are we missing valuable time with our children? Thinking about the past too often or constantly rushing into the future means we are failing to accept and enjoy the present moment. The Timehop app on Facebook has served as a great reminder to how quickly children grow and why we need to practice being present.  You will feel happier and experience more positive emotions, you will be able to focus on the present more and thoroughly appreciate your life experiences if you practice living in the now.

Top 10 Tips

  1. Fully accept where you are.
  2. Forgive the past and stop comparing now to then.
  3. Don’t dwell on the future – Too many ‘What if’s’ will not help you move forwards!
  4. Eliminate distractions- put down your phone and electronic devices in company.
  5. Smile and laugh more often.
  6. Never assume, communicate clearly.
  7. Be positive with your word
  8. Reflect; What are you grateful for? What do you value in your life?
  9. Do kind things for others.
  10. Listen!
If you have the time, meditation is also a great way to reduce stress and increase your sense of well-being. Of course, life can throw situations into our laps that can cause stress and upset but if we are aware of the techniques that can ground us, we can find our way to a peaceful present moment again. All the best, Bee
